10 Ways A Small Business Can Get More Business

Recently walking by a trendy neighborhood in upper Manhattan, I noted the website of a small wine shop. This is an area where real estate apartments, co-ops, and condos can easily go into 5 figures. I point this out, because, there IS money in this neighborhood, and people who in all likely hood like to drink wine.

When I checked out this wine shop’s website I noticed that it had very nice graphics, but that was about it. It was one page, saying here I am, call us if you need anything. Here’s what he could do:

  1. Insert a form to gather his clients emails so he can easily contact them when a certain wine varietal or
favorite vineyard comes in. Use auto responders.
  2. Direct people via signs in store and on receipts to his website to entice email sign ups.
  3. Hold small wine classes.
  4. Advertise these classes among other places on Craigslist
  5. Videotape the wine classes and offer it for sale to your customers.
  6. Give it away for free.
  7. Produce a video tasting show. Yes, I know this is being done, but it could be done with a local emphasis, think Long Island wines only, etc. Besides, a wine shop is just an example, fool.
  8. A California handyman has inserted Youtube videos about repairs he can do. He has gotten a not so small $20,000 job from a lead that came from his handyman blog. The best part is that those were not even his videos. By the way, Google likes Youtube, can you guess why?
  9. Cross-promote with other types of similar businesses.
  10. Contact Me for Help. I can help your business get more than with what you already have.   I had a hard time coming up with this last one :)

Thanks for the kind words. I had this domain and didn’t want to let it linger any longer. Thought I would put it to work.
